Dear [FIRST],

Other insulation operators have been charged with alleged safety breaches.

Arrow Property Maintenance Pty Ltd has been charged with alleged safety breaches following the death of an insulation installer in Rockhampton last year. In other unrelated insulation-safety incidents, a business operator and another company have also been charged.

Also on the local news front, caution is being urged when interpreting new asbestos research findings; a climbing wall company has been prosecuted and fined after a schoolboy was injured; Simon Crean is the new Federal Minister responsible for OHS; and Ged Kearney has taken over the reins of the ACTU from Sharan Burrow, who has been elected unopposed as the general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

In overseas news, the underground investigation into the Upper Big Branch Mine explosion in the US can proceed; US chemical chiefs have recommended a ban on pipe cleaning with natural gas and the indoor venting of fuel gas; Ireland's workplace death toll has fallen; and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) is calling for greater emphasis to be placed on workplace road safety.

For more on these stories and other OHS news, read the safety and training updates below.
